I’m always happy to see that people are helping others less fortunate. When you hear a story about someone trying to build a school in a foreign country to educate the women, who are traditionally oppressed in that culture, it’s inspiring. It’s not just like donating three cents per day to a child in Africa. That man was actively making a change in a poverty stricken area. It just makes it all the more inspiring to see that a long-shot attempt like that is actually successful and growing. I can’t imagine the feeling that man must get when he sees a little girl finish writing the alphabet correctly, or when he buys a piece of clothing from a women that his system taught how to sew. It’s good to know that there are people out there who can make a difference are actually trying to. Most people who have the ability to help, only do so when it’s tax-deductible and sometimes don’t even do it then. It’s also nice seeing that people of these different places have a desire to grow, and improve their communities. It seems like some cultures have the “fine as we are” attitude and upon being given the chance to change for the better, refuse. The “process takes many generations” and for a group of people to have the patience and dedication to their cause to be able to keep it going even long after they might be gone is a nice change from the typical, self-serving society that we all see everyday. Not only is this man returning the favor to these people for saving his life, but he’s making a differencein their entire culture. That’s HUGE! This culture has been around for years and years, slowly progressing on it’s own. But with help from this man and his program, it is advancing much faster than it would on its own. Who knows how many years it would take for this culture to realize that they should start educating their women on their own, much less to the level that this man’s program is educating them to. It just goes to show us that a difference can be made, but it takes dedication, understanding, and acceptance on both sides of the issue. Together, people can drastically reduce the problems of our world. |
